Watershed monitoring, plans progress

Tanners Creek Watershed Project is progressing with water monitoring, land inventories, and plans for educational programs, according to the board of supervisors of the Dearborn County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Anyone interested in participating with the project by serving on a committee, may contact Watershed Coordinator Kris Streb at 1-812-926-2406 ext. 107.

The board met on Wednesday, October 10, at the conservation office. Supervisors present were chairman Jim Casper, Hilda Beiersdorfer, Brad Dawson, and Ted Fowler, along with Natural Resource Conservation Services Terry Stephenson and Doug Daggy, and resource specialist Ray Hopping or the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Extension Educator John Jaworski and district staff Kris Streb, Jennifer Groves and Rita Cutter.

There still are funds available for rural fire protection for installing dry hydrants or drafting basins on farm ponds. If interested, call the district office at 1-812-926-2406 ext. 3.

The district will receive funds from the state's Clean Water Indiana program for nearly $12,000 to assist with conservation projects in the county.

The board has set Thursday, Feburary 21, 2002 for its annual meeting and banquest at Agner Hall at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds.

In January, several supervisors and staff will attend the Annual Conference of Indiana Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Indianapolis.

They also will attend a legislative breakfast Tuesday, January 8 with Indiana senators and representatives to discuss funding for Indiana's conservation districts.

The next district meeting will be at 8am, Wednesday, November 7, at the conservation office. All interested persons are welcome.
